Benefits Realisation

Following the emergent importance of benefits realisation applied to healthcare infrastructure and service development programs, HaCIRIC has undertaken a research initiative targeting the development of a robust and comprehensive Benefits Realisation (BeReal) process. The aim of this research was to develop new understanding on the use of benefits realisation management in the context of the built environment within healthcare programmes. This new understanding fostered and emphasised the development of benefits realisation management tools and methods that embrace self-checking processes and improve process visibility. It aimed to bring a notoriously traditionally fragmented community together through workshops and shared aims and overall vision.

Delivery of consistent high quality services and infrastructure through diverse investment models requires a benefits driven approach.

The challenge of answering community needs through intelligent investment is complex and demands a deeper and inclusive awareness and appreciation of how to deliver benefits and allocate resources effectively.

In the light of the research outcomes we are confident that, with organisational support for the required investment, BeReal’s tools and techniques for defining, delivering, measuring and evaluating specific benefits can transform the chances of successful delivery of change programmes.

The research initiative targeted the development of a robust and comprehensive benefits realisation process from the strategic planning stages to delivery. The resulting model focuses on how to elicit and prioritise potential benefits with stakeholders at the initial stages, and how to track and manage benefits during the lifecycle of a programme or project to achieve successful outcomes.

BeReal's powerful model is helping the NHS face huge challenges to deliver new environments for high quality and efficient patient care.
